Reforestation campaign in Cotapata

The initiative was born as a joint effort to promote regenerative tourism and raise awareness about the importance of protected areas. Verónica Zambrana Ríos, Bolivia representative of the Green Destinations Foundation, explained that this activity is part of efforts to encourage tourism that is not only environmentally responsible but also leaves a positive impact. 'It is not only a recreational activity but also one of awareness, environmental education, and ecological legacy,' said Zambrana.

Ecological Importance of the Queñua

The queñua (Polylepis pepei) is an endemic species of Bolivia that plays a fundamental role in the Andean ecosystem. It acts as an ecological bridge between the Yungas and the mountains, allowing moisture from the Amazon to continue its path to the drier Altiplano. This is crucial for the water cycle, benefiting both the flora and fauna of the area.

Collaboration for Conservation

The activity was organized in collaboration with the National Service of Protected Areas (SERNAP) through the park ranger corps of the protected area PN ANMI Cotapata, Green Destinations, SDSN, Pasaporte Áreas Protegidas, Eco Verde Mujeres, the Organización Sindical Mixto de Transporte Turístico, and Impacta. This collaboration ensured the success of the activity, raising awareness among participants about the importance of conserving the protected area and leaving a positive impact on this valuable ecosystem.
